This new year brings some new additions to my sphere of influence. First and foremost on January 2nd I became a Grandpa. Our first grand-daughter (Saige May) entered this world a couple weeks early and now, eleven days past her original due date, is coming along beautifully. I’m truly excited for the day we can venture into the wilds as I did with my daughters when they were little.
Another new addition is reacquainting myself with single action six-guns. Lipsey’s Exclusive has introduced a new configuration which really caught my eye;
After seeing this clip and this one on the Pearce Brothers Youtube channel; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs5oTKTI1cE; I was determined to have it. Purchased on the last day of the year it arrived just after Shot Show and for the last week I’ve been running it through its’ paces.
Day before yesterday an internet search revealed at my very own Cabelas an early New Model Blackhawk, 41 Magnum with a 4 5/8″ barrel. I traded one several years ago and regretted that decision ever since. Seeing this pistol I was determined to find it a good home. I now sit with a 6 1/2″ Old Model Blackhawk; a 5 1/2″ Mid-size, Flattop Bisley; and a 4 5/8″ New Model Blackhawk all in 41 Magnum.
So why the fascination with the 41 Magnum? Well I’ll post a blog about that coming up.
With all the “New” stuff going on in the world it’s kind of nice to take a step back and embrace the “old,” which is what I’ve done with single action six-guns and lever guns. Last fall I packed a 5 1/2″ 44 Magnum Blackhawk and a Henry 44 Magnum side gate lever action during elk season here in Colorado.
I’m determined to be successful with such endeavors as the challenge is much more appealing to me now than it used to be when I was younger. For me this is a “New” track in my life and so far I’m wishing I had started years ago.
